The Oswego Rotary Club honored this year’s recipients of its scholarships and awards and their parents at a recent luncheon meeting. The occasion marked the 90th anniversary of the club’s founding and celebrated the club’s collaboration with the Richard S. Shineman Foundation, Pathfinder Bank, and the Tarandi Foundation whose financial contributions enabled the awards to nearly triple those of previous years.
OCO celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016 as the county’s anti-poverty agency. Rotary donated funds toward the agency’s program to aid homeless teens in Oswego County.
The Minetto United Methodist Church will host a free dinner on June 25, serving from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The menu will be roasted chicken mashed potatoes, tossed salad, bread, and dessert. Donations are not expected but will be accepted.
While the monetary awards were given or promised based on completion of eligibility criteria to juniors and seniors, students who are freshmen and sophomores also received recognition for their academic achievement and outstanding character.
The school’s top point earners with the Accelerated Reader program earned a minimum of 100 points and scored a minimum of 80 points on each Accelerated Reader test in order to participate in the annual Pizza with the Principal celebration.
The 2017 senior athletes were honored during the Fulton Athletic Booster Club’s annual senior recognition banquet, held recently at The Oasis. As each senior athlete paraded alphabetically into the packed reception area, they were met with thunderous applause and cheers from guests, school administrators and Booster Club supporters.
Directors Tom Briggs and Robert Dumas have announced the cast for the upcoming Oswego Players’ production of the musical “Grease.” The popular musical will be performed in the Frances Marion Brown Theater of the Oswego Civic Arts Center on July 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16.
