Members of Concinnity believe that “In our changing climate, politically and otherwise, it is important for everyone to stand up for peace, justice and love.” They have chosen to make their voices heard by means of a concert entitled Visions of Hope. The program will consist of songs about our environment, social justice, equality, peace, and love, and will be held at the First United Methodist Church on June 11 at 3 p.m.
World No Tobacco Day is a global effort to reduce the negative impact of tobacco in our communities. The adverse effects of tobacco use are evident in our community from tobacco-related illnesses to tobacco litter among where our children play. Not only smokers are affected by tobacco; according to the CDC, research has shown that 41,000 Americans die yearly due to secondhand smoke.
On a beautiful Sunday, May 28, members of Jacksonville Faith Community guests and members of Masonic War Vet Post No. 43 led by Rev. George A. Reed gathered at Jacksonville Cemetery in the town of Lysander to honor veterans of Americas wars. The cemetery contains the remains of veterans from the American Revolution, Civil War and all conflicts.

Dr Pepper Snapple Group and national non-profit KaBOOM! awarded Frederick Leighton Home and School Association a $15,000 Let’s Play Community Construction Grant that will be used to revitalize the school’s playground with new and engaging play structures.
The 36th annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute was held on May 27. A large crowd watched as many bands, dance groups and floats passed by, representing this year’s theme “Stars and Stripes Forever.” A parade is music, with bands of different sizes and sounds and the winner of “The Grand Marshal Award” was Downbeat Percussion.
The Oswego County Health Department is reminding people who live in areas affected by the Lake Ontario flooding to disinfect and test their wells before using them. Natalie Roy, principal public health sanitarian for the Oswego County Health Department, said people should avoid using water from private wells for drinking or cooking until it is determined to be safe for consumption.
Plans are under way for Wellhouse Ministries’s first dinner and silent auction, scheduled for June 9 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, corner of West Fifth and Bridge streets. The event will feature a silent auction and 10-piece chicken wing dinner, celery, blue cheese, and salad.
