Chancellor-elect Dr. Kristina M. Johnson (left) will serve as the 13th chancellor of SUNY effective Sept. 5. She succeeds Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher (right), who will step down from the position in June 2017 after an eight-year term during which she has positioned the university system as a national model through an unprecedented partnership with Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Interim leadership for the period between June and September will be appointed by the SUNY Board of Trustees at its June 21 meeting.

Johnson as the 13th chancellor of SUNY, the largest comprehensive system of public higher education in the United States. What exactly do dog control officers do anyway? I am so frustrated with the one for our town. Last year I called him about a stray cat and he said, “I don’t handle cats. Call the Humane Society.” I called him a few days ago about a dog that I think may be abused. I’m not sure what is going on and I asked him to check into it. He said, “I don’t do animal cruelty. Call the police.”
