The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program , a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, in conjunction with the AARP, is seeking to recruit volunteer instructors for the AARP Driver Safety Program. Candidates for the position must be at least 19 and must have access to a computer.
“With the weather changing, many homeowners are cleaning up debris, such as unwanted waste tires, that can act as a breeding ground for mosquitoes that carry deadly diseases, like EEE,” said Senator Ritchie. “I’m pleased to once again partner with Oswego County officials to ‘fight the bite’ and offer this free service to residents as a way to not only beautify our region, but also to protect public health.”

The New York State Education Department recently honored seven G. Ray Bodley High School students with college scholarships because of their academic achievement. The Oswego County Historical Society will host its annual meeting presentation on May 21 at 1:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the historic Oswego Public Library at 120 E. Second St. During the membership meeting, board president Justin White will present a brief annual report of the projects and events of the year. Immediately following, White will give a special encore presentation of the program entitled “Grand Old Homes of Oswego – Gone & Forgotten.”

For 32 years, the Zonta Club of Oswego has presented the prestigious Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award to a woman who has dedicated herself to her community and who serves as a role model for young women. This year, the 33rd Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award recipient is the late Billie Crandall Brady, who served the community tirelessly for more than 28 years.

The two-day event on June 3-4, will set sail from Callahan’s Marina off NY Route 31, near the southeast corner of Oneida Lake. Racing on the eastern end of the lake will be visible from North and South Bay as well as the Verona and Sylvan Beach areas.
