The Peoples’ Produce Project is a volunteer project that was launched last year by Oswego County Department of Social Services staff members. Building on a successful first season, the initiative continues to help local residents supplement their pantries with fresh local produce.
The Oswego County Health Department will hold its next rabies clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 7, at the Oswego County Highway Garage, 24 Dill Pickle Alley, Parish. Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang said the rabies virus is widespread across Oswego County this summer, and people should make sure their pets are properly vaccinated against rabies.
The 2016 Summer Reading Program at the Oswego Public Library drew in almost 400 participants of various ages and reading levels. Readers kept track of either books or minutes read over the course of the six-week program.
Oswego initiatives earning awards are proposals by Isabelle Bichindaritz to support developing online courses in biomedical informatics and by Casey Raymond for a new method of creating online content for science and mathematics programs. Oswego’s two submissions were among the 35 SUNY approved out of 78 proposals.

The Oswego Sunrise Rotary club recently welcomed Oswego AmeriCorps member Norman Berlin III. He is working on a project to preserve the stone walls of the Fort Ontario State Historic Site.
Oswego Health Home Care welcomes Carrie Butler, RN, who has more than 13 years of home care experience as its director of patient services. In this position, Butler will work with staff members to develop patient care plans that best meet their needs, as well as determine if patients being discharged from the hospital can benefit from OHHC’s many services.
The scholarships are $18,800 over four years — $4,700 a year — for students residing on campus. Off-campus Presidential Scholarships are $2,350 a year. For outstanding non-New York state students, the award can be up to $60,000 over fours years, in combination with a Destination Oswego Scholarship.
Malone is a very friendly boy who doesn’t mind car rides and loves kids. He’s not a big fan of other cats, so we think he would do better in a single-kitty home. But, with as many kids as you can crowd in. He’s a big handsome boy who looks more or less like a Maine Coon cat and if you want to tell your friends that we won’t squeal on you.
John Strong from Fulton, serving with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion, is promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
