Sunny skies and warm weather made for a perfect day for the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Annual Golf Tournament. The AaPEX / EIF Construction team carded a 59 to capture first place in the morning. The afternoon tournament produced a similar result as the Domino’s Pizza team shot a 59 to finish first.
Rochester Institute of Technology celebrated its 131st Academic Convocation in May. Diplomas were distributed to graduates following the event at separate ceremonies held by each of RIT’s nine colleges and two academic centers.
A 5K Fun Run, Walk and Roll will be held next moth to benefit ARC and Oswego Industries. The event will be held on August 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center.
Nurses from Michaud Residential Health Services, St. Luke Health Services and Bishop’s Commons will offer their popular community bone density screening on August 2 at the State Street United Methodist Church, 357 State St., Fulton, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The bone density screening is free of charge and open to the public.
“Although the overall cargo numbers remain down when compared to the same time frame last year, in June we were above the five-year average,” said Betty Sutton, administrator of the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation.

Last year, a new scholarship was created in the name of Los Angeles resident and Oswego native Joe Spereno to benefit an Oswego High School student continuing his or her education in the field of music.
Karrie Damm, executive director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County announced that the agency recently welcomed two new members to its board of directors, Dan Kelley, director of Oswego County Opportunities’ Crisis and Development program; and Brian Cummings, vice president of Branch Operations for Oswego County Federal Credit Union.
