It was more than 20 years ago that former Minetto Elementary School physical education teacher Lois Campbell introduced a “Country Hoedown” activity to her students.

The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee congratulated Helen Chetney for her 25 years of service to county government.

“At YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, we are focusing on health and education to ensure fewer children are at an increased risk for childhood obesity and more children succeed in school,” said Lynnet Lamb, child care director, Fulton Family YMCA. “But it’s not just a single day of fun, active play and learning – it’s a kick off to helping parents get a jump on creating a healthier summer.”

For the past 35 years, the college has welcomed public attendance at the daylong conference. Presentations, demonstrations, scholarly posters and artwork exhibitions are free, and will take place in the Marano Campus Center and the nearby Richard S. Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation. Parking on campus that day is free.

Stage combat was the theme of recent rehearsals for CNY Arts Center’s production of Narnia. Director Amy Price guided actors from big to small in the safe handling of swords and daggers and choreographed battle scenes for the upcoming musical based on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The C. S. Lewis classic is set to open April 17 and run through April 26 at CNY Arts Center
