Oswego Zonta Honors Cooper-Currier

On September 26, the Zonta Club of Oswego honored Diane Cooper-Currier, executive director of Oswego County Opportunities, with its prestigious Amelia Earhart Woman of Achievement Award. Event co-chair Kristine Bushey noted how special the evening was. “This dinner is our spotlight event for the Zonta Club of Oswego. We relish the opportunity to pay tribute to a woman who works so hard to improve the lives of families in our community,” she said.

Kara Weiss Receives Paul Santore Award

The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee recognized Kara Weiss with the 2014 “Paul Santore Award for Outstanding Youth.” She is a member of the board of directors of the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau; the student/youth representative on the Oswego School Board and has participated in the Oswego City Youth Court Program for five years; completing more than 30 cases and more than 80 community service hours.

Quirk’s Players To Hold BBQ on Saturday

Quirk’s Players of G. Ray Bodley High School will be sponsoring a chicken barbeque dinner Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fulton Polish Home, 153 W. CNY Arts Staff Will Hold Office Hours in Oswego County Office Building

CNY Arts staff will hold office hours in the County Office Building in Oswego Oct. 3 and Oct. 17 to provide technical assistance to local artists and arts, cultural and heritage tourism organizations. Matthew DeBellas, marketing director for CNY Arts, said staff members will be available from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 3 and Oct. 17 in Conference Room C on the fourth floor of the County Office Building at 46 E. Bridge St.

At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club meeting, Rotarian Dan Farfaglia introduced members of the Oswego County Youth Court. Youth Court is a family court diversion program aimed at reducing juvenile delinquency in the county of Oswego. It is a trial by peers process for the first-time offender between the ages of seven and 18.

Kenney earns designation as ‘School in Good Standing’

There were plenty of reasons to celebrate when Dennis M. Kenney faculty and staff members gathered in September to usher in a new school year. In addition to welcoming teachers and staff members, Principal Dee Froio announced that the New York State Education Department removed DMK from its focus school rating and deemed it as a “School in Good Standing.”

Culinary students prepare hundreds of lunches for senator’s events

Students enrolled in the Culinary Arts program at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation are using the lessons learned in the classroom to prepare hundreds of lunches for upcoming events sponsored by Sen. Patty Ritchie. After preparing several hundred lunches for the senator’s Oswego County Senior Health and Wellness Fair held Sept. 24, the students assembled another 900 lunches for a similar Jefferson County event held Oct. 1.

OCO OPTIONS Expands Services

Thanks to a new funding source Oswego County Opportunities’ OPTIONS Program has expanded its services. The Maternal and Infant Community Health Collaborative Project (MICHC pronounced “Mitch”) is a five-year New York State Department of Health grant that will allow OCO’s OPTIONS Program to serve all women of reproductive age and their families in Oswego County.
