When it comes to fighting hunger in Oswego County, perhaps no one plays a more important role than Oswego County Opportunities. To help continue to feed those in need OCO will host its “Retro Bowl” fundraiser on April 5 at Lakeview Lanes.
Students in a SUNY Oswego illustration class will display their artwork beginning March 29, at Oswego State Downtown. An opening reception will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. that day at the downtown branch of the College Store at West First and Bridge streets in Oswego. The exhibition will run through April 19.
As part of last month’s National Court Reporting and Captioning Week, students in Alfred State’s court reporting curriculum put a personal twist on the typical military care package, taking the time to prepare items exclusively for Alfred State alumni serving overseas.

Recently, members of the Tri-Oswego Steering Committee presented a $5,000 grant to the Oswego YMCA for the creation of a new youth training program. The donation will fully fund a program geared towards preparing youth between 11-15 years old for entry in to the Tri-Oswego Splash and Dash held in Oswego on June 14.
Cub Scout Pack 809 had an Exciting Pinewood Derby. This event was held today (March 15), at Premier Living Suites in Oswego thanks to the generosity of the owner Patrick Furlong. Along with the excitement of racing, the boys also got a visit from Oswego Speedway superstars: Anthony “The Hawk” Losurdo, Stephen Gioia III, Camden Proud, Mike Bruce and Rob Pullen.
It is estimated that one in 20 people will develop colorectal cancer during their lifetime. “Each year in New York State, more than 10,000 people develop cancer of the colon and rectum, and nearly 3,500 New Yorkers die from this disease,” said Carolyn Handville, coordinator of the Cancer Services Program of Oswego County.
On April 26, Mother Earth Baby will host to the second annual Healthy Baby Expo and the Oswego site of the fourth annual Guinness world-record setting “Great Cloth Diaper Change” international event. This year’s expo will take place at the Lake Ontario Conference Center at 26 E. First St., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Learning did not stop at the classroom door for one group of nine students. Morningstar Care Center granted them an opportunity to take their knowledge out of the classroom and relate it to real world scenarios.
A strong proponent of Oswego County, Daigle was recognized donating his time and talent to produce videos for United Way’s Annual Campaign Kickoff and Annual Meeting.
