More than $12,000 was raised by the 550+ participants in the second annual Run For Dennis 5k Run/Walk, held March 16 to honor the memory of Oswego resident Dennis Pacheco a victim of bladder cancer.
AmeriCorps is a national service program whose members learn valuable skills while receiving a living allowance and earning an education award for tuition or student loans. In the past, many college students have found the summer AmeriCorps program provides them an experience related to their college studies, while helping to pay for their education.
Oswego Health staff members from throughout the health system recently showed their support of colorectal cancer awareness. Employees recently paid a fee to be allowed to wear jeans to work. The funds collected were donated to Oswego County Opportunities Cancer Services Program.
Pat found a black and white female cat which had been hit by an auto within 3 miles south of North Country Veterinary Hospital on the morning of April 23. He took it to North Country (where he had just been with Earl Gray Cat, which suffered a similar injury) so is now having it treated for head injury and a broken hind leg.
The new home of SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station will open for fall-semester classes in late August, and trails will remain open to the public as construction wraps up. Rice Creek’s faculty and staff, along with its collections totaling 4,500 specimens, will move into the new 7,200-square-foot field station beginning July 8.

Eleven speakers from across the U.S. and Canada explored a variety of War of 1812 topics, including military training and battle analysis, maritime and military archeology, naval history, wartime society and commerce, espionage, and the art of war. Participants also discovered engaging exhibits, living history demonstrators and historical authors who presented and signed their works.

Novelis HR staff members Bethany Lighthall and Jessica Kolenda met with Gail Godici at the Oswego County Workforce New York office to go over the company’s role in the upcoming Employer Forum. It will be held May 7 at the new CCC campus, starting at 1 p.m.
Each year, thousands of people die waiting for a transplant because no suitable donor can be found for them. Currently, close to 120,000 men, women and children are waiting for organ transplants in the United States. Across New York State there is an urgent need for help due to a shortage of donors.
