Amongst the hustle and bustle, there’s an unwelcome guest that’s arriving early this year: the flu. According to health officials, this year’s flu season has begun especially early, with activity up significantly across the nation.

SUNY Oswego students and faculty will offer small prints of original artwork for sale as a Hurricane Sandy relief fundraiser starting Dec. 7 at Oswego State Downtown.

Oswego County Workforce New York, operated by the Division of Employment and Training, will hold a “Choose Work” workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 7, to help Social Security Disability Insurance beneficiaries learn about work incentives and rules that will help them return to work.

Continental Arms Collectors Association (CACA) exhibited U.S. military weapons and equipment at the annual Oswego Elks Lodge Veterans Dinner held on November 9.

Zach Menter introduced Dennis Goss, one of four funeral directors at Foster’s Funeral Home in Fulton and Hannibal at a recent Fulton Noon Rotary Club meeting.

Mildred Miller had served as installing prelate as a ploy to assure her attendance at the meeting. She was invited to the east and presented with her 50 year membership pin, certificate and a life membership.

23 foreign exchange students from 19 different countries around the world, which are living locally in the Upstate New York area, were hosted by the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department on December 1. The highlight of the tour was the students trying on the turnout gear worn by the firefighters.

The literary works of Volney Elementary School students were featured at a recent author’s tea in the school’s library. Student authors from Erin Brewster’s fourth grade class presented Native American folktales during the event that they wrote and illustrated.

Karen Murray has been named executive director of St. Francis Commons Assisted Living Residence in Oswego. St. Francis Commons is currently under development, with construction expected to be complete in the fall of next year.
