Optimism High Despite Tough Weather for Farmers

Driving through the district this past week I couldn’t help but notice a lot of corn being chopped and reflect on the season. I’ve seen a lot of nice crops out there, so I hope the season went well for most. I know it’s been an up and down year for many of us. The wet weather kept the pastures green and lush for grazing all summer long, but it made it difficult to dry hay.

McHugh Introduces Legislation to Help Unemployed Workers Keep More of Their Benefits

Congressman John M. McHugh (R- Pierrepont Manor) announced today that he has introduced legislation, H.R. 6844, the Suspension of Federal Income Tax on Unemployment Benefits Act of 2008, to help unemployed workers keep more of their benefits.  Congressman McHugh’s legislation would suspend the federal income tax on unemployment compensation benefits for two years.
