Nashville folk-americana songwriter Louise Mosrie will be performing at Oswego Music Hall on November 2. The doors open at 7:15 p.m. Performance will be at 8 p.m. Louise is a winner of numerous songwriting awards from folk festivals around the country such as Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in Hillsdale, NY, Kerrville Folk Festival in Kerrville, Texas and Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Telluride, Colo.
I was able to check another experience off my Bucket List. John and I recently enjoyed Mid-Lakes Navigation’s day tour on the Oswego Canal. When we traveled by car along routes 481, 57, and 49 I would catch glimpses of the Oswego Canal and wondered what the world looked like from the water. Mid-Lakes Navigation operates tours on the Oswego Canal twice a year – four opportunities to enjoy the Oswego Canal.

I love discovering unique aspects of a city. At the Remic Rapids in Ottawa there is one of the most incredible art displays I have ever seen. Each spring, John Felice Ceprano, using riverside stones, creates balanced sculptures that seem to defy gravity. Visitors are cautioned to avoid touching.
The sound of bluegrass instruments will join classically trained voices when the Artswego Performing Arts Series hosts “Classical Meets Bluegrass” with the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble at 3 p.m. October 20, in SUNY Oswego’s Sheldon Hall Ballroom. Known for their a capella prowess, the accomplished singers cross musical boundaries to perform a new work called “The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass.”
The Anthony Joseph Swingtet and Jazz vocalist Anna Vogel will be the first featured performers, Oct. 18 and 25, respectively, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m., as Under The Moon launches “Under The Moon: Where The Stars Come Out” live cabaret entertainment and dining.
The Oswego Players and director Richard Mosher have announced the cast for the November production, “On Borrowed Time,” written by Paul Osborne and based on a book by Lawrence Edward Watkin.
We were told that you haven’t really experienced Ottawa until you have had a Beaver Tail. We wandered through the open-air market past a variety of shops and dining establishments to the Beaver Tail stand. Beaver Tails reminded me of fried dough that was stepped up by adding one of their many varieties of toppings from M&Ms to crushed Oreos to sliced cinnamon apples.
Oh, my, they are yummy.
Ottawa, Canada’s capital, is a world-class city closer to Central New York than New York City. The architecture of the Parliament buildings and colorful changing of the guard brings to mind London. Local wits like to say Ottawa was picked as the capital because Queen Victoria threw a dart and claimed that was where she wanted the capital.
