Sandra Scott Travels: Visiting Ometepe Island’s Two Volcanoes

John and I arrived in Nicaragua late in the afternoon and so we stayed at the Las Mercedes Best Western Hotel which is across from the airport. The hotel provides free transportation but it is walkable from the airport. Ometepe Island, located in Lake Nicaragua, is one of the world’s largest freshwater islands. The island was formed thousands of years ago when sand accumulated creating an isthmus between the two volcanoes. Only the Conception Volcano is active.

“The Mousetrap,” SUNY Oswego’s student honors production opening March 4, offers a character-driven play populated with legendary mystery writer Agatha Christie’s delicious inn full of quirky characters, and the driven actors portraying them. The players take the stage for a preview at 7:30 p.m. March 3, and then for the run of the play at 7:30 p.m. March 4, 5, 11 and 12, with a finale at 2 p.m. March 13 in Hewitt ballroom.

Ke-Nekt Concert To Feature Renowned Jazz Bassist Larry Grenadier

Larry Grenadier, one of contemporary jazz’s most accomplished and in-demand bassists, will play with the Oswego Jazz Project – and in three duets with SUNY Oswego’s own award-winning upright bassist Danny Ziemann — at 7:30 p.m. March 9, in Sheldon Hall ballroom. Sandra Scott Travels: A Visit To The Athens of the Mayan World

If the global warming progresses as some predict the oceans will rise significantly and possibly 1,500 years from now the cities and localities we know today may be under water. Seems impossible but I imagine the Mayans never thought their flourishing world would one day be overtaken by the jungle. Copan is just one of the great Mayan cities with pyramids, temples, and where art flourished.

Murder, misperception and mirth come to Monkswell Manor as SUNY Oswego’s student honors production of Agatha Christie’s “The Mousetrap” takes the Hewitt ballroom stage in March. For a “Clue” to the approach of director Ana Richardson in staging the classic whodunit, “The Mousetrap” will preview at 7:30 p.m. March 3, and run at 7:30 p.m. March 4, 5, 11 and 12, with a 2 p.m. finale on March 13.
