A little bit of fun, hands-on learning opportunities and skill enhancements are just some of the rewards local students experience through their participation in the Fulton Community School Extended Day program. The real honor, according to Resource Coordinator Janice Scott, is seeing the students grow, mature and improve with each session.
Parents and students filled the hallways during the recent APW Junior-Senior High School Open House, where teachers greeted students and their families and answered questions regarding class projects and schoolwork.
Healthy sleep supports a healthy body, an alert mind ready to learn at school and reduces risks for obesity. Unfortunately for many children in Oswego County getting a good night’s sleep is only a dream. To make that dream come true Oswego County Opportunities has launched “Sleep Tight,” a proactive initiative to stop the spread of insect pests like bed bugs.
In its 13th year at SUNY Oswego, the project is part of an annual statewide community service project by Student-Athlete Advisory Council chapters at some SUNY Athletic Conference colleges. SAAC’s mission is to generate a student-athlete voice among Oswego’s intercollegiate teams and to enhance school spirit within athletics.
Parents of Special Children, Inc., will hold its sixth annual AIM High with PSC on October 17 from 5 – 8 p.m. This free event will take place at the Fulton Alliance Church, 1044 NY Route 48, Fulton, and is open to the public. Participants are asked to park and enter through the back doors for easy access to the program.
SUNY Oswego’s Family and Friends Weekend — Friday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 22, will showcase student achievements in academics, the arts and athletics. For many students, the weekend presents an opportunity for family and friends — some for the first time — to see firsthand their students’ immersive college experiences.
Port City Roller Derby will hold a recruitment event on Wednesday, October 25, from 7-9 p.m. at the Bilou Roller Skating Rink in Fulton, 1804 State Route 3. Port City Roller Derby is Oswego’s only women’s flat track roller derby team.
The SUNY Oswego philosophy department’s 2017 Warren Steinkraus Lecture on Human Ideals will feature Dr. J.D. Trout, author of the book “Wondrous Truths: The Improbable Triumph of Modern Science,” at 4 p.m. Oct. 19, in the Marano Campus Center auditorium. Trout’s lecture, “Explanation, Truthiness and the False Climb to Knowledge,” is free and open to the public.
With increased concern regarding climate and culture for students and staff of Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District, their transportation and maintenance departments teamed up to create a campaign for safety that would deviate from the routine every-year messages.
