Dr. Karen Wolford of SUNY Oswego’s psychology department recently won a $50,000 National Science Foundation I-Corps grant to assist development of a mobile app to help people with anxiety disorders. First offered in 2011, I-Corps grants seek to help entrepreneurs — such as human-computer interaction graduate student Arthur Delsing, a former student and now a colleague of Wolford’s — bring technological innovations such as the stress-reduction app to market.

Kathy Fenlon, Lakeside Artisans’ fabric purse and bag artist, will teach a child’s tote bag class on September 27 at 10 a.m. Learn to make a cute versatile tote bag perfect for a child or young teen. Class participants will choose from a large variety of fabric and create their own unique tote.

Fidelis Care has signed on as a “Triple Word” sponsor for the eighth annual Diane Falise Memorial Scrabble Fest. “We’re very pleased to have Fidelis as one of our ‘Triple Word’ level sponsors for Scrabble Fest 2014,” said Meg Henderson, coordinator of Literacy Volunteers.

The scouts helped young visitors dig for prizes in the Treasure Chest daily in the 60-foot exhibit tent located in the mini-NY State Park at the Syracuse Fairgrounds. New York Sea Grant and The Great New York State Fair developed the exhibit in partnership with the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, H. Lee White Maritime Museum of Oswego and others.

Route 11 in the village of Pulaski, which had been closed for the past eight days for an urgently needed culvert replacement project, was re-opened to traffic today (Sept. 12) at 2:15 pm, as scheduled.

Unforeseen circumstances have forced a one-week postponement of Wednesday’s scheduled Ke-Nekt Chamber Music Series season opener. The concert, featuring Brahms’ sonatas for violin and piano, now will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24, in Sheldon Hall ballroom.
