Rural Health Network of Oswego County Presents College Scholarship

The Rural Health Network of Oswego County recently presented five $500 scholarships to area college students who are pursuing healthcare careers. The RHN includes many health and human services agencies and providers across Oswego County with the mission of the organization to improve the quality, affordability and availability of health care services in Oswego County by focusing key resources to address specific health care priorities and strengthen our local health care system.

Human Concerns Collecting Backpacks for Stuff-A-Bus

As part of his community project, AmeriCorps member Evan Oustrich has organized a drive to collect backpacks for distribution to children in need throughout Oswego County through the annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign. Now through August 20 Oustrich will be accepting donations of new and gently used backpacks at the Human Concerns Center, 85 E. Fourth St., Monday through Friday, noon to 3 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – noon.

Annual Oswego Industries Golf Tournament Hits Long for County Residents Living with Disabilities

Fifty-six golfers came out to support Oswego Industries’ ninth annual golf tournament this past Saturday.
The event, which took place at Griffins Greens Golf Course, located in Oswego, kicked off with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. as planned. “The support we were given from our local community and businesses for this event was overwhelming,” said Heathe Jones, marketing and development manager for Oswego Industries.

A Trolley Ride through Oswego History

On a recent afternoon, residents of Bishop’s Commons and St. Francis Commons boarded an old fashioned trolley for a tour of sites of historical significance in and around the Oswego area. Local historian Justin White joined the passengers and provided unique insights into the various points of interest on a journey, as the trolley made its way from one side of the city, across the river, to the other.

Stepping Stones students get a taste of the agriculture industry

Participants in Oswego County BOCES’ Stepping Stones Day Program had their appetites for knowledge satisfied during a recent lesson in agriculture. Armed with a variety of farm-fresh products, Oswego County 4-H Program educator Debbie Halliday shared her expertise with students on the Blue Team in Robyn Yorker’s class.

Fulton students become mechanical engineers during summer robotics program

With a growing focus on the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields, students in the Fulton City School District recently had a chance to explore these areas of study during a summer robotics program. The four-week program for eighth and ninth-grade students challenged participants to use their imaginations and knowledge to create robots capable of picking up objects and performing other tasks.
