On February 15, Michele Southgate is offering a class in Hand-Painted Silk Scarves. On February 22, Diane Chepko-Sade is offering a class in Fused Glass Nightlights.
In celebration of the upcoming 50th anniversary of this historic event, Rotarian Steve Manno entertained his fellow Rotarians at a recent meeting with guitar and keyboard renditions for a tribute to the Beatles.
Oswego County Opportunities will hold its annual bowling tournament fundraiser on April 5 at Lakeview Lanes. This year’s theme is the ‘OCO Retro Bowl,’ featuring fun from every decade since the agency was established on March 15, 1966. OCO holds this fundraiser every spring to help support its programs and services. The OCO Retro Bowl takes place from noon – 6 p.m.
Annually historic figures come to life (well sort of) as Frederick Leighton Elementary teacher Tom Wiegand has his students create a wax museum. What visitors to the classroom view are figures of well-known and sometimes lesser-known, persons who have made a difference.
However, this project is much more than the final event.
The United Way of Greater Oswego County recognized its many leadership givers during a special reception in their honor at Under the Moon in Fulton. The event was attended by more than 60 Leadership Givers, those who pledge $500 or more annually.
Local artist Henry Latino donated a check for $75 for the Lake Neatahwanta Revitilation Project from the sale of one of his “ManCave” artistic wood sculptures.

Karrie Damm, executive director of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County, has announced the celebrity judges and entertainment for the 3rd Annual CAC Chicken Wing and Micro-Brew Fest. Local favorite Mike Shiel will add his unique acoustic rock sound to the event as he performs from 5 to 10 p.m.
Six of the newly trained master trainers are osteoporosis (osteo) instructors at Oswego County sites: Rachel Brooks, Ann Hardy, Carol Miller, Carol Simpson, Joan Southwell and Marjorie Flood. Also trained were Sharon Connor (Onondaga County), Sharon Faudree (Red Creek) and RSVP directors Ellen Wahl (Oswego County) and Nadia Emerson (Brevard County, Florida).
