State Senator Patty Ritchie will recognize those who lent a helping hand during the fierce lake effect snowstorm that hit the North Country earlier this month at “People Helping People: A Celebration of Adams, NY,” a special event that will take place on February 8.

While Greenland is mostly glaciers, Iceland is active volcanoes mixed with ice and amazing scenery. The capital of Reykjavik is home to three quarters of Iceland’s people and heated entirely by geothermal energy!

The following area students have been named to the fall 2013 dean’s list at St. Bonaventure University:

Cold Water Immersion Survival Medical Education Training for New York’s First Responders will be offered at the 2014 Central New York Boat Show by the Boating Industry Association of Upstate NY, New York Sea Grant, US Coast Guard Auxiliary and Oswego County Office of Emergency Management.

The Sandy Creek Central School District Varsity Cheerleaders were named Frontier League Winter Champions for Class C at a cheerleading championship held at Sandy Creek on January 15. The squad, coached by Tanya VanOrnum, also received the Sportsmanship Spirit Award during the competition.

Herkimer College awarded academic honors to 537 students for the fall 2013 semester. Included are 177 students named to the President’s List for earning a grade point average of 3.80 and higher.

Part-Time Honors are awarded to students earning at least a 3.25 grade point average on six to 11 credit hours.

The Fulton Community Revitalization Revitalization Corporation is pleased to announce that, The Shineman Foundation has awarded the not-for-profit group a $20,000 grant for the Lake Revitalization efforts.

The Board of Directors of the Oswego Country Club recently introduced new budget-friendly Junior Single and Junior Family membership classifications for perspective members of the Club.
