The Oswego County Farm Bureau is pleased to host the February Coffeecake Meeting at the Oswego County Federal Credit Union, Route 3 North in Mexico. It will be held on February 3 at 1 p.m. This month’s speaker will be Josh Hornesky of the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Open to youth ages 8 through 14, Camp Hollis offers a week-long summer residential camp experience for 9- to 14-year-olds and an overnight experience for 8-year-olds, complete with swimming, nature hikes, games, campfires, arts and crafts, and many more activities. Youth can now register for week-long and overnight sessions.
Plans are under way for the 33rd annual Memorial Day Salute event to be held May 24 at the Fulton Community Center. The theme for the celebration will be “Showing Gratitude To Our Veterans.” Jim Weinhold, Veteran of the Year, will serve as grand marshal of the Saturday parade.
Entertainment for Saturday night will be announced soon.
Oswego County BOCES Exceptional Education teacher Mary Ryan has been making the most out of the cold weather by conducting science experiments with her students. After learning about the physical properties of water, and seeing a video on Reddit.com on how hot water freezes faster than cold water, Ryan’s class tested the theory.
A course catalog of the 2014 spring adult educational opportunities at Oswego County BOCES is now available. The catalog has been mailed to residents in Oswego County and contains information about the literacy and training opportunities catered to adult learners who have been displaced, are considering a career change, are interested in re-entering the workforce.
The Delaney Brothers will perform a gospel/bluegrass concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 1. at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. A freewill offering will be collected. The alternate date if weather is bad is Feb. 8, at 7.p.m.
In the past ten years, the number of women owned businesses has increased by 44 percent. Yet, women face unique financial challenges. Rob Rolfe of Harmony Financial Services will address these particular issues and discuss how specific financial plans can be created to overcome them at the next Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training’s monthly breakfast meeting on February 6.
On Feb. 15 at the Pulaski Baptist Church, Jill Pelkey will share her message “Hidden.” God hems us in to be holy like He is even when we are not, Jill said. She will address how women struggle with the need to measure up to God by doing good.
Herkimer College awarded academic honors to 537 students for the fall 2013 semester. Included are 360 students named to the Dean’s List for earning a grade point average from 3.25 to 3.8 for that semester.
We were hoping that winter would be over by now, what with global warming and all that, but apparently not. Darn it! So you probably already know much of this, but reminders about how to protect pets in the winter weather never hurt. The basic rule of thumb is this: If it is excruciatingly cold for you, it’s the same for your best friend.
So act accordingly.
