Friends of History Crowns Parade of Trees 2017 Winners

The Parade of Trees for 2017 is in the history books and if by chance you missed it this year, you missed a great one. We had 14 trees in total and you would think with that number, there would be a duplicates but that wasn’t the case. Each of the trees was as unique and imaginative as an individual snowflake as it falls to Earth.

Syracuse Man Facing Felony Charges Following Two-County Pursuit

On Saturday, December 16, Syracuse Police received a report of a stolen silver Volkswagen Passat. The vehicle information was broadcast to all Onondaga County police agencies to be on the lookout for the stolen vehicle. At approximately 4 p.m., a State Trooper observed the vehicle on Oswego Road in Clay and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop and continued northbound on Oswego Road.

Fulton 2018 Budget Passes with No Tax Increase, Little Resistance

The city of Fulton’s 2018 budget passed a unanimous roll call vote by the Fulton Common Council after a public hearing brought out mostly positive remarks on Tuesday. The $16,492,000 budget brought a zero percent tax increase despite a spending increase of $245,861 from last year and revenues down $1,931 for a total of $9,605,997. A recent push by councilors to sell city-owned properties acquired by tax foreclosure has contributed to a $10,844,170 increase from last year in the city’s total assessed value, reaching $337,533,626. The tax rate remained steady at $20.50 per $1,000 of assessed value, the increase in assessed value helping to keep this figure unchanged, city officials said.

ALDI Announces Opening Date For First Fulton Store

On Jan. 11, ALDI, one of America’s favorite grocery stores*, will offer Fulton residents a fresh, new shopping experience as it opens its first Fulton store, at 555 S. Fourth St. ALDI currently has more than 1,600 stores in 35 states, serving more than 40 million customers each month. To celebrate the opening of its Fulton store, ALDI will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:25 a.m. on Jan. 11.

Winter Will Not Halt Work for Friends of Fulton Parks Volunteers

Friends of Fulton Parks is active year-round, and currently seeking participants and volunteers to plan their first annual “Snow Softball Tournament” fundraiser in February. Amazon will donate a percentage of the sales to the organization. The winter is also time for planning and preparing for the next year. On the 2018 agenda for fun are Sparkle-a-Park, A Day in Foster Park, Lake Neatahwanta Nature Trail Walk, and Oswego River Pathfinder Trail Halloween Hike. Just before Halloween, Friends of Fulton Parks collaborated with Oswego County Opportunities’ Impact Program, Fulton YMCA, and Fulton NY Rocks to host their first Halloween Hike along the Oswego River on Fulton’s restored Oswego River Pathfinder Trail.

Fulton’s Downtown Lit for Holiday Season

The 14th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Jubilee at Fulton’s City Hall kicked the holiday season off to a jolly start. Guests enjoyed free hot chocolate, donuts, crafts, and face painting as they awaited the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus to light the city’s Christmas tree. For the first time this year, the holiday lighting didn’t stop at the city’s tree at City Hall. The Fulton downtown gazebo has been lit for the holiday season thanks to community members and local businesses.

Community Rallies Behind Three-Year-Old Cancer Patient, Fulton’s ‘Danger Girl’

Danger is her middle name. Literally. As such, the young Brooklyn Danger Marie Hall is no stranger to looking danger in the face. “Brooklyn Danger is not your typical 3-year-old. She is the most dangerous girl in the world. She is the kind of girl that has no fear, jumps without second guessing, and runs full speed into dangerous situations,” her mom, Meghan Hall said on the youngster’s GoFundMe account. And now, at not yet even four-years-old, Brooklyn Hall dubbed “Danger Girl” is staring danger right in the face once again as she battles Ependymoma, a rare type of brain cancer occurring in only eight to 10 percent of childhood brain tumors.

Fulton Fire Department Honors Two Fallen Firefighters

Just over 100 years after their line of duty deaths, Fulton Fire Chief David Eiffe honored two of Fulton’s fallen firefighters, Floyd L. Adel and Leon J. Hammond. Today, Eiffe strives to remember all four of Fulton’s former firefighters whose names are on the NYS Fallen Firefighters Memorial Wall in Albany that lost their lives in service at some point in the department’s 115 years of service. Fulton Fire Department lost firefighters Adel and Hammond almost exactly one year apart, a rough year in department history, Chief Eiffe said. As both line of duty death anniversaries approached, Chief Eiffe and the Fulton Fire Department organized a remembrance ceremony to be held in their honor.
