Representative John Katko (NY-24) announced today (March 30) that he will host his fourth public town hall event focused on combating heroin and synthetic drug abuse. The event will be held on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Cayuga Community College’s Fulton Campus.
A Huntley Hearing brought three NYS Troopers and a NYSP Investigator to the stand in the case against Markee L. Cathcart, 19, indicted on charges of manslaughter in the second degree and assault in the second degree, both felonies to which Cathcart plead not guilty. All witnesses were called by the People, represented by Assistant District Attorney Matthew Bell, and were cross-examined by the defense counsel, Joseph Rodak.

Oswego County Opportunities celebrates 50 years of service to the Oswego County community, providing 22,000 people each year with more than 60 different programs aimed at serving their mission to, “Inspire partnerships and provide services that empower people, support communities, and change lives.” Currently, OCO is within the top six private employers in Oswego County with more than 650 employees and 1200 volunteers working to provide over 60 programs for educational services, crisis and development services, health and nutritional services, transportation services, and residential services with over 80 sites throughout the county. The evolution over 50 years has shown exponential growth and need for services, as exemplified by the rapid advancement of programs offered, sites available to deliver programs and employees needed to maintain adequate services.

On Friday, March 25, at approximately 5:35 p.m., investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant for the person of Rebecca A. Flugel as she operated a 2009 Kia Rio within the 1200 block of Emery Street in the city of Fulton. Pursuant to the search warrant, investigators seized 144 bags of heroin from Flugel’s person, police said.
On March 25, State Police stopped a vehicle on Interstate 690 in Syracuse for a traffic violation. Subsequent investigation at the scene revealed the operator, Jesse Longley, was allegedly in possession of Xanax and Suboxone without a valid prescription, and heroin.
On March 26, at approximately 7:59 p.m., State Police from Fulton observed an occupied vehicle parked with the engine shut off, in the Town of Oswego Office Building on County Route 7. The trooper stopped to conduct a welfare check on the occupants and ensure they did not need assistance. Upon approaching the vehicle the trooper smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming out of the vehicle, according to the report.
