More Charges Pending Following Assault Victim’s Death

On Oct. 6 at 1:25 p.m. the Oswego City Police Department was notified that Deidre Rogers of 956 Middle Road, Lot 8A, Oswego, had died. Rogers was the victim, who was hospitalized from the assault that occurred on Sept. 30 at 128 E Fourth St. in the city of Oswego. Pending the results of the autopsy, the Oswego City Police Department will be working in conjunction with the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office in filing appropriate charges in this matter,

Free Water Testing and Tetanus Shots for Flood Victims Ends Oct. 30

The Oswego County Health Department announced that it will wrap up its free water sampling program and free Tdap vaccinations at the end of the month. “Monday, October 30 will be the last day for free water sample pick-up and testing,” said Natalie Roy, principal public health sanitarian. “As people recover from the lakeshore flooding earlier this year, we’ve found that the need for sampling is slowing down.”

More EEE and West Nile Virus Found

The Oswego County Public Health Department reported today (Oct. 6) that test results received on Tuesday indicated new positive results for both the Eastern equine encephalitis and West Nile viruses. The report listed two pools as positive for EEE and four pools as positive for WNV on September 18. It also listed two pools as positive for EEE and two pools as positive for WNV on September 25.

Jury Convicts Cicero Man Of Assault

At approximately 5:30 p.m. today (Oct. 5), an Oswego County jury convicted 32-year-old Chad R. Burman of Cicero, NY, of the felony offense of Assault in the Second Degree. The prosecution alleged that Burman assaulted and physically injured a 69-year-old man on June 3, 2016, in the parking lot of the Waterfront Tavern, a restaurant located along the Oneida River in Hastings.

Local West Nile Virus Raises Some Concerns

Recently, Oswego County Health Director Jiancheng Huang confirmed the first human case of West Nile Virus in Oswego. The report of the virus in this area has raised some concerns among students on the SUNY Oswego campus. “It’s scary how western medicine still can’t defeat old diseases,” SUNY Oswego Junior Cliff-Simon Vital said.
