Oswego Council OKs One Local Law, Sets Hearing For Another

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council, councilors approved Local Law No. 5 of the Year 2017 – A local law adding Section C13-11 to the Charter of the City of Oswego With respect to the Department of Water. It gives the property owner a manner in which they can challenge their water or sewer bill. Also, a public hearing was set on a proposed local law that reduces the time allowed for redemption of residential and farm property that’s been foreclosed.

Motorist Hospitalized With ‘Life-Threatening’ Injuries, No Students Injured In Car-Bus Crash

On Monday State Police responded to the intersection of Barker Road and Shanty Creek Road for a report of a collision involving a Central Square school bus and a Subaru Impreza. The driver of the Subaru was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Upstate University Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

Body of Missing Fisherman Reportedly Recovered

A body was recovered this afternoon (Sept. 25) in Lake Ontario. It is believed to be that of a Pennsylvania fisherman who went missing on Lake Ontario, according to the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office. The body of 56-year-old Mark Deiter was found in about 100 feet of water. He was reportedly still in his boat that had sunk.

REAL IDs Are Coming to New York State

“New York State Department of Motor Vehicles has been working with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to become compliant with the REAL ID Act of 2005,” said Oswego County Clerk Michael Backus. “This legislation is a joint effort between states and the federal government to improve the reliability and accuracy of state-issued driver licenses and identification cards.”

Search Under Way For Missing Fisherman

UPDATE: The victim is still missing. The search will resume Monday morning.
Mark Deiter of Walnuttort, Pa., and two passengers were fishing on his 1994 Bayliner 23’ boat when at about 5:30 p.m. Sept. 23 the boat began to take on water and sink. The two passengers jumped from the boat, Mr. Deiter was on the boat when it went completely underwater and has not been seen since.

In the production of coins, according to treasury.gov, the US Mint buys strips of metal to manufacture the nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar.
The penny however requires a separate material.The cost to produce the one-cent penny rose to 1.5 cents in the 2016 fiscal year according to US Mint spokesman Tom Jurkowsky in a Forbes interview.

Church Elected To NYS Association of Counties Board of Directors
