It’s CiTi helping city, helping CiTi. At Monday night’s Physical Services Committee meeting, Mayor Billy Barlow requested consideration from the Common Council to authorize entering into an agreement with CiTi to undertake the demolition of residential properties located in the city of Oswego and owned by the city or under an Order to Demolish by the city’s Code Enforcement Department.
Investigation revealed a 2003 Chevrolet Impala was traveling west on East Main Street in the village of Parish when he struck a 2002 Volkswagen which had been parked along the north shoulder of East Main Street, in front of 2914 E. Main St. The investigation is continuing.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred Friday evening (Oct. 13) on Interstate 81 near the Lafayette exit in the town of Lafayette. The victim, a man in his 30s from Syracuse, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the FedEx tractor trailer, a 43-year-old man from Oswego County, was not injured.
The SUNY Oswego Women’s Center will host the 35th annual Take Back the Night at 6 p.m. Oct. 24, to raise awareness of domestic violence. The Take Back the Night march brings attention to violence, including sexual assault and domestic violence, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A rally with guest speakers will precede the march.
At the close of Thursday’s meeting, members of the Oswego County Legislature were invited to attend a non-partisan town hall event. Suzanne Stout, representing We the People of Oswego Indivisible, said the event, scheduled for 7 p.m. on October 17, would take place in the Legislative Chamber on the fourth floor of the County Office Building, 46 E. Bridge St. “We are a non-partisan group and we are trying to educate ourselves and the public about issues that face Oswego County,” she explained.
There will be a Water Outage on State Route 48 (West River Road). The affected areas will be from Burden Drive to the south city limit. The water will be turned off at 9 a.m. and will be back on by 6 p.m.
In front of an auditorium full of local shoreline home and business owners Tuesday night, Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Senator Patty Ritchie and Senate Environmental Conservation Committee Chair Senator Tom O’Mara, along with Assemblymen Will Barclay and Bob Oaks came together for a Joint Hearing on 2017 Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Flooding.
The Oswego County Health Department reported today that a horse in West Monroe tested positive for the EEE virus in the state lab. The horse was seen by a veterinarian and euthanized on September 28. Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang said horses are very susceptible to mosquito-borne diseases if they are not vaccinated.
Friends of Great Bear, trail stewards for Great Bear Springs Recreation Area, is pleased to announce that the group is the recipient of a 2017 $4,200 grant from “The Emerick Fund, a component of the Oswego County Community Foundation.” The grant is for the repair and improvement of a popular and well used trail section at Great Bear.

The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band performs each year at halftime of the nationally-broadcasted U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Allison Pasco is joining an elite group. Only 125 high school marching band members among the millions in the United States are selected.
