On Thursday, July 28, one of the largest free-admission music festivals in the nation will gain a very special visitor. Rock legends Blues Traveler will appear on the NRG Lakeview Stage at 9:15 p.m., courtesy of C&S Companies and Cayuga Community College.
UPDATE: Victim identified The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning crash that has reportedly claimed at least one life.
The section of I-81 between exits 33 and 34 remains closed as deputies investigate the one-vehicle crash. A pickup truck hit a guardrail and overturned just before 3:15 a.m. today (April 27).
Novelis, the world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling, today (April 27) announced that Kevin Shutt has been named Plant Manager of its Oswego plant, effective immediately. Shutt brings 25 years of experience with Novelis to his new role overseeing operations at the Oswego plant.
SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley announced the appointment of Dr. Walter Roettger as acting provost and vice president for academic affairs. As the college’s chief academic officer, Roettger is responsible for leadership of all instructional and academic programs across the college.
Superintendent Paul Lear will lead a walking tour of the 1814 Battle of Oswego at Fort Ontario State Historic Site at 7 p.m. May 5. Lear will incorporate new information and insights into the battle gained from his research at the National Archives and other sources. The battlefield walking tour will begin inside the old stone fort and proceed at a slow pace.
The Common Council approved a special use permit for the Verizon Wireless Telecommunications facility located at 132 Ellen St. During the public hearing, a couple of speakers raised concerns regarding structural integrity of the tower, the possibility of a fire and also some health concerns.
On April 8, at approximately 8 p.m., State Police responded to a residence in Parish for a report of an assault. The victim reported that his employees William J. Presley Jr., 37, and Matthew M. Presley, 34, of Bangall Road, Parish, had come to pick up their paychecks, and then attacked him following a denial of their request for a pay raise, according to police.
University Police at SUNY Oswego arrested student Gregory Berrios, 18, of New York City, on April 22 on charges of second-degree unlawful surveillance, a class E felony. He is accused of allegedly using a smartphone to record a student taking a shower in Cayuga Hall without that person’s knowledge on April 8.
On April 6, State Police received a complaint from a victim who had learned his driver’s license was suspended for several unanswered traffic tickets he claimed he had never received. Following an investigation, it was determined that Scott Blowers, a relative of the victim, had been providing the victim’s identity on several traffic stops throughout Oswego County.
It’s no secret that today’s youth feel pressure. Pressure to excel in school, go to college, get a job, etc. How they overcome those pressures is a true testament to their character. Take West Monroe native Savanna Yerdon for example.
