Katko Introduces Legislation To Elevate Fort Ontario, Safe Haven To National Park Status

U.S. Representative John Katko today (Dec. 10) introduced legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives which will advance the designation of Fort Ontario and the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum in Oswego to National Park status. U.S. Representative Richard Hanna, whose district also includes a portion of Oswego County, joined Rep. Katko as an original co-sponsor in the introduction of this legislation.

The suspect of an assault at SUNY Oswego has been apprehended, identified and is pending charges according to a campus wide announcement delivered around 10:30 tonight (December 9.) The suspect, identified as Eric DeBrose, was allegedly involved in an assault against a Seneca Hall resident during the afternoon hours earlier the same day.

SUNY Oswego Urges Students to Be Aware with Potentially Armed Assault Suspect on Campus

UPDATE: The suspect is believed to no longer be on campus. SUNY Oswego sent out a mass email to all students today at approximately 4 p.m. in regards to an assault suspect on campus that could potentially be armed. The email addressed only the basic information available, informing students there has been an assault in Seneca Hall and the suspect is believed to be at large and possibly armed.

Dr. Laurence Malone, a Hartwick College economics professor, presented his plan for a new revenue source for small cities in Upstate New York, including Oswego. His proposal, to add a $100 fee ($50 per semester) to SUNY college students’ bill would greatly alleviate much of the financial stress several upstate college cities are facing.

Prison Sentences Imposed On Child Abusers

On Monday (December 7), Andrew L. Gaurin, 26, of West Monroe, was sentenced by the Hon. James McCarthy, Oswego County Supreme Court, to 10 years in state prison and 20 years post-release supervision based upon his conviction for Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree, a Class B Felony. Two others were also sentenced.
