Inspection Fees Spark Debate On Committee Floor

Several Oswego landlords spoke out Monday night against the possibility of hiking the rental inspection fee from $10 to $50. The inspections must be done as a matter of public safety, councilors said. The landlords present had rentals that were “clean as a whistle” but others are not in good condition and could be a fire waiting to happen, one councilor pointed out.

On April 4 at approximately 1:59 p.m., investigators with the Oswego City Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team with the assistance of the Fulton Police Department stopped a vehicle on South First Street at State Route 481 in the city of Fulton pursuant to a search warrant execution. The two adult occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

Bash the Trash entertains audiences with their orchestra of oddball instruments made out of recycled and repurposed materials.The Children’s Museum of Oswego will host the highly unique musical group, Bash the Trash Environmental Arts, on April 12 starting at 2 p.m. Bash the Trash builds, performs and educates with musical instruments made from reused and repurposed materials. The event will be held on the SUNY Oswego campus in the Hewitt Union Ballroom, with free, easily accessible parking.

Oswego’s 2014 Polar Plunge Draws More Than 125

Polar Plungers brave the freezing waters of Lake Ontario on Saturday afternoon.The event, held Saturday, at Wright’s Landing boat launch, attracted more than 125 “plungers” of all ages. Funds raised by the freezing fundraiser will benefit the Special Olympics. It was the quickest and coldest plunge ever. Grand Jury Returns 25 Charges; Teens Arraigned Monday

Three teenagers accused of killing a town of Granby man were indicted by a Grand Jury on felony charges of murder, robbery and burglary. The secret Grand Jury proceedings were revealed when three separate indictments were filed with the Oswego County court clerk containing 19 counts and 25 felony charges against the young men.

Oswego County Combats Jail Overcrowding with Alternatives to Incarceration

The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety and Finance and Personnel committees have approved a budget modification request from Oswego County Sheriff Reuel A. Todd to cover the cost of housing inmates out-of-county. In the first two months of the year, this expense amounted to $130,000 which exhausted the adopted 2014 budget amount of $100,000.

Freezin’ for a Reason in Oswego – Polar Plunge Set Saturday

A large crowd took part in the previous  Polar Plunge for Special Olympics. The 2014 event is set for Saturday. More than 100 participants are signed up for the second annual Plunge for Special Olympics New York and will take an icy dip into Ontario Lake on Saturday in support of local area Special Olympics athletes. Sergeant Jim Cunningham, officers Lysa Dolin, Bryan Thompson and Kevin Engle of the Oswego Police Department will lead the plunge carrying the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics “Flame of Hope.”
