Friedman, Wan earn top SUNY Oswego awards for research

Dr. Barry A. Friedman, professor of management in SUNY Oswego’s School of Business and author of more than 35 peer-reviewed articles on topics as diverse as corporate reputation and parents’ school satisfaction, is this year’s recipient of the college President’s Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity. The college Provost’s Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity, recognizing research excellence within the recipient’s first six years at the college, goes to School of Business faculty member, Dr. Hong Wan.

Legislators OK Funds To Deal With Jail Over-Crowding

county logoOn Thursday night, the legislature approved transferring $500,000 from the appropriated fund balance into the prisoner charges – other facilities budget line in order to meet the expense already incurred and to cover the estimated expenses during the remainder of 2014. In the first two months of the year, the expense to house inmates elsewhere amounted to $130,000. That exhausted the adopted 2014 budget amount of $100,000.

Police: Missing Man May Be In Auburn, Syracuse

The Oswego City Police Department has received information that the reported missing person, Charles J. Rice, was seen on Tuesday April 8, in the city of Auburn. It is believed he boarded a CENTRO bus around 2 p.m. in Auburn and traveled to the city of Syracuse. Anyone with information on Rice’s location is urged to contact police at 315-343-1212.

Dozens Weigh In On School Budget Plan

Members of Tuesday night's audience applauds a speaker's commentsMore than three dozen speakers voiced their concerns Tuesday night regarding possible budget cuts for the 2014-15 school year. The district’s projected revenue for the next school year is $79.8 million and projected expenses are $81.5 million – a gap of $1.7 million. The school board will continue to discuss all its options prior to when they have to adopt a budget. The next regular meeting will be April 22. The public vote is set for May.

Teens Enter Not Guilty Pleas, Bail Set at $100,000

The teenagers accused of killing a town of Granby man entered not guilty pleas in Oswego County Court Monday during their first appearance before Judge Donald Todd.
With the first request to set bail, Assistant District Attorney Matthew Bell said, “The defendant has no criminal record and no warrant history. The people have no objection.”
