‘Suicidal Male’ Taken into custody
UPDATE: A suspect is in custody and no injuries were reported. The Oswego City Police conducted a search of the residence and there was no firearm located.
Oswego City Police, with assistance from several other agencies, defused a potentially life-threatening situation this afternoon on the city’s southwest side. At about 3:08 p.m. today (Sept. 30), the Oswego City Police were dispatched by 911 to a report of a suicidal male with a gun at 258 W. Third St.
Drivers Charged Following ‘Road Rage’ Incident
On Sunday (Sept. 29), at 8 p.m., two drivers were ticketed following the investigation into a motor vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 49, four-tenths of a mile east of Avery Road in the town of Constantia, the result of a road rage incident, according to sheriff’s deputies.
Youth Bureau Announces Nov. 8 Deadline for Next Round of Grants
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau anticipates it will receive a limited amount of funding for youth development programs in 2014. Not-for-profit organizations have until Nov. 8 to apply for grant funds through the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Oswego Resident Serves Peace Corps in the Philippines
Tammy Hadlow said she always aspired to volunteer on a global level. Now, she is doing just that. She is working as an environment volunteer with the Peace Corps in the Philippines. “I hope to bring my work/life experience to my new community and be part of a successful project that will have positive lasting effects on my host community,” said Hadlow.
New Youth Court Members Take Oath
The ranks of Oswego County’s Youth Court swelled by a dozen on Thursday. Youth Court is a recognized community diversion program aimed at keeping young offenders out of Family Court. Youth Court is a system, backed by police, where juvenile offenders who have committed a minor crime and have admitted their guilt are tried by their peers in a court of law.

Additional West Nile Virus Found in Oswego County
THIS JUST IN: The New York State Department of Health today notified the Oswego County Health Department that more evidence of the West Nile virus was found in mosquitoes collected Sept. 12 in West Monroe. Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang reminds residents to continue to be proactive in protecting themselves against mosquitoes to avoid infection of mosquito-borne viruses.
