When she was a little girl, Megan Pecora dreamed about some day owning her own business. She realized that dream recently with the opening of Port City Blueprint in downtown Oswego. She wants to focus on large format copy and print but also does business cards and other types of printing jobs.
At Tuesday’s school board meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Cathy Chamberlain and the district’s Director of Mathematics Carrie Plasse presented a program on the implementation of the mathematics modules within the district in hopes of providing information and reducing the level of stress for everyone.
Winners of the Visitor Guide photo contest sponsored by the Oswego County Tourism Office were recognized recently by the County Tourism staff. The winning photos will be featured in the new Oswego County Visitor Guide which will be released later this fall.
City officials are looking at how they can quell the rash of temporary signs that are popping up like weeds all over the city. One proposal would fine the sponsor of the sign if it isn’t removed in a timely fashion. Signs would be allowed only in certain areas and only with approval from the council.
Toni Lynn Krupa, 26, of Fulton, was arrested on October 3, following an investigation by the Oswego County Drug Task Force, the Fulton City Police and the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team.
The arrests stem from the investigation into an incident that occurred in the town of Hastings on that same day, when they reportedly unlawfully entered a construction business by crashing a vehicle into a door to gain entry, causing damage to the building, then allegedly stole items from within.
Although pumpkins can grow to 2,000 pounds these days, it takes a lot of hard work and some luck to produce an award-winner, according to competitors at the 22nd annual Oswego Great Pumpkin Festival. Besides pumpkins, the two-day festival also featured great watermelons, squash, tomatoes and gourds. Check inside for this year’s winners plus some of the top pumpkins from past years.
Andy Wolf of Little Valley, NY, beat out a field of nearly three dozen growers to take home the top prize in the 2013 Oswego Great Pumpkin Festival. The weighing might be done – but the festival continues on Sunday.
At about 12:45 p.m. today (October 4), the New York State Police in Fulton were dispatched to a residence on Phinney Road in the town of Granby for a 911 call of a burglary in progress. A female resident had returned home and discovered that 3 males had broken into her residence and were attempting to steal property, troopers said.
On Thursday night, Cassandra Hondro and Emily King were officially invited to join the Army All-American Marching Band. The pair was honored in front of other band members, classmates, fans and family during a post-rehearsal event. They are the 11th and 12th Marching Buccaneers to be selected to the prestigious band.
