When have we cut enough?

The Common Council will soon be considering a resolution that will result in the elimination of positions within the fire department. There are currently four newly created vacancies that were included in the 2013 budget and anticipated to be filled. This comes as a surprise, based on the fact that we recently suffered cuts to daily staffing and made concessions through contract negotiations to accommodate the 2013 budget.

During the event Peter Allen, founder and executive director of TASM, presented each of the veterans with a special medallion intended to honor their service and serve as a lasting reminder of the appreciation of a grateful community.

Ritchie, State Officials Join To Boost Motorcycle Safety

Beginning this weekend, the Thruway will use its electronic Variable Message Signs to increase driver awareness. Senator Ritchie had asked for the state Thruway Authority’s help in the wake of a series of horrific motorcycle crashes that claimed the lives of a number of local bikers. From June 1 to 8, the Thruway will flash the messages, “Watch for Motorcycles” and “Share the Road” on signs boards across its system.
