Six children in the Oswego City School District are currently fighting some form of cancer. The superintendent will be one of dozens who have volunteered to have their heads shaved to help raise funds for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
The Oswego County Tourism Advisory Council awarded its 2012 Tourism Ambassador Hall of Fame Awards to two members of the Oswego County Legislature who have given unselfishly of their time and energy to support tourism in the county for many years.
This past weekend marked the first of two Maple Weekends in Upstate New York. These are the two weekends when sap is running strongest and sugarhouses all over Oswego, Oneida, Jefferson, and Lewis counties will open their doors to the public.

The woman murdered in what State Police call an apparently random attack worked for 14 years as a librarian in the Oswego City School District. District Clerk Bill Foley said Lori Bresnahan was beloved. “She loved being a librarian, she loved the kids,” he said.
Her alleged killer also has ties to Oswego.
In the past several days, the OPD’s Anti Crime Team has made arrests stemming from an alleged illegal bookmaking operation as well as several drug related investigations.
The symposium runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 6 and from 9 a.m. to noon on April 7. There will be a meet-and-greet social with cash bar, a presentation of the painting of the U.S. Brig Oneida by Tim Ames, and early registration from 6 to 9 p.m. on April 5.

While Oswego County is doing well in some areas, leaders on both sides of the aisle in the county legislature say they must all work together to hold the line on taxes and spur the local economy. Currently, county taxes are all used paying for just some of the unfunded state mandates.
Spring doesn’t officially arrive until next Wednesday. Early sunshine gave way to some pesky snow showers. But, no one really cares. The opening of Rudy’s marks the unofficial start of the spring season for hundreds of local residents.
The United Way of Greater Oswego County paused briefly Wednesday from its humanitarian efforts to honor those who make such work possible – their legions of volunteers. The annual campaign is less than 1% away from achieving its $800,000 objective.
