Last month’s average temperature, 74.1 degrees, tied for the 6th warmest July on record. The other July that was that warm – 2010. Meanwhile, July 2011 is right behind at 74.0 degrees.

The New York State Department of Health has notified the Oswego County Health Department that West Nile virus was found in a mosquito pool collected in the village of Central Square last week.

Oswego County residents have saved more than $4 million in prescription drug costs by using the Pro-Act prescription discount card, Legislator John Proud, chairman of the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, said.

The city’s fire chief requested permission to transfer money to cover the cost in short-term. Representatives from the city and the department will get together soon to find a way to alleviate the problem in the future.

The Oswego Firefighters and friends raised more than $15,700 on Saturday to assist a seven-year-old cancer patient and his family. “Thank you so much to everyone that helped make today’s benefit a huge success!” said Lt. Brooks Hourigan who spearheaded the event. “The final tally will amount to more than $15,700! Unbelievable! It couldn’t go to a more deserving family!”

The child lives in the city of Oswego and is recovering at home. The Oswego County Health Department was notified by the New York State Department of Health Friday afternoon that the child tested positive for West Nile virus.

UPDATE:  Oswego County 911 Center reports people able to call 911
Oswego – The Oswego County E-911 Communications Center reports that the telephone outage in the communities of Altmar, Lacona, Sandy Creek and Parish has been fixed and people are able to call 911 from their telephones.

Mayor Thomas W. Gillen is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas A. Reynolds, Esq., as the assistant city attorney for the city of Oswego.
