Superintendent Bill Crist unveiled the district’s plan to redistrict its five elementary buildings recently to board of education members. On Wednesday he began a series of presentations at the elementary schools. Riley’s home and school association had several questions and concerns for the superintendent.
Oswego’s 444th Engineer Company of the U.S. Army Reserves received an emotional sendoff Tuesday as they prepare for a year’s deployment in Afghanistan. Several hundred family members, friends and supporters packed the bleachers in Max Ziel Gym at Laker Hall on the SUNY Oswego campus.

On Sunday, at approximately 8:35 p.m., Oswego City Police were dispatched to 107 Murray St. regarding a reported stolen vehicle which had just occurred. The suspect was located and was taken into custody without incident.
The superintendent of schools will meet with the home and school groups for each of the elementary schools to discuss the possibility of redistricting. There is a plan in the works to move a few students around to create a better balnce in the district’s five elementary buildings starting in the 2012-13 school year.
UPDATE: Oswego County Sheriff’s investigators have released the identity of the driver involved in a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on Thursday in the Town of Oswego.
The accident happened on West Fifth Street Road in the town of Oswego. The driver of the vehicle was the lone occupant and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The investigation is continuing.
Beth Hilton, executive director of the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce dominated the agenda. Councilors OK’d plans for the July 4th parade, farmers’ market and other activities.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer called on Congress to reject legislation that would cut Medicare funding for Upstate NY hospital clinics by $494 million over the next 10 years. The impact to Oswego Hospital would be $2,076,000, according to the senator’s figures.
UPDATE: The operator of the vehicle was identified as 34-year-old Leif T. Adkins from 3567 Lincoln Highway in Kinzers, Pa. The investigation is on-going and charges are pending.
A vehicle crashed into the Mexico Village Hall earlier this afternoon. The driver has been hospitalized; his injuries don’t appear life-threatening, authorities said. The vehicle was reportedly stolen.
