Hundreds brave the chilly temperatures and brisk winds for the annual ceremony. The city’s holiday tree was lit Thursday night in Civic Plaza. The winners of the scholastic holiday essay contest were announced. And, Santa greeted scores of youngsters eager to tell him their Christmas wish lists.
As there is presently no snow in the area, the winter parking ban is not in effect at this time. The mayor will advise the local media as soon as the ban is implemented.

On Wednesday night, the Oswego City School District held the first of two public hearings regarding the proposed tax agreement with Constellation Energy Nuclear Group, owner of Nine Mile Point units I and II. Some school district representatives, their lawyers and representatives of Constellation showed up.But no one from the public.
Numerous concerts are scheduled in the upcoming weeks as the Kingsford Park Elementary School concert band and chorus kicked off the musical series on Tuesday.
They also approved overriding the state-mandated two-percent tax levy limit for 2012 if need be; and they approved using a county employee to inspect county-owned structures, in stead of paying the state more than $60,000 a year to do it. A public hearing on the tax deal will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 15.
The Oswego City Police and Fire departments, as well as the New York State Police Dive
Team and the United States Coast Guard, are all assisting in the recovery effort, utilizing
specialized equipment to conduct a thorough search of the area.
At about 9:09 a.m. today (Nov. 29), Oswego City Police responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of West Fifth and West Albany streets. As a result of the impact between the two vehicles, one was pushed up onto the sidewalk and struck a 25-year-old woman and her young son.
According to the county administrator, adoption of this local law will protect county taxpayers from being penalized (potentially several million dollars) in a future NYS Comptroller audit that doesn’t account for the county’s unique situation regarding the expiring nuclear plant tax agreements.
More than three dozen people attended the hour-long session to hear about the plans for the proposed charter school and to ask questions. A second informational meeting will be held in about a month.
