Our City of Oswego, like the rest of our state, faced a challenging year in 2010. Even though the economy did improve somewhat, it has not yet fully recovered. Despite these difficult economic conditions, many accomplishments were achieved and more will follow this year.
“Camp Hollis is a landmark for Oswego County. It really is. I am glad to be a part of it,” says Brandon Morey. There are certain things that make a camp a camp and should never be changed, never ever, he said, adding he hopes to continue and enhance Camp Hollis’ tradition for many years to come.
Assemblyman Will Barclay presented a pair of local heroes with NYS Assembly Resolutions honoring them for their life-saving efforts in January. An alleged online predator, with the screen name “Blade Rapture,” was attempting to persuade young boys into meeting him for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity, according to the police. One boy told his mother who contacted police.

They fell in love when they were students at what was then called Oswego State Teachers College. Bill went off to war. Phyllis, of Baldwinsville, dated and then married another man. Bill married when he came home from the war.
The Oswego weather observer reports 0.82-inch of precipitation on March 10. The Port City’s monthly total has jumped to 2.14 inches. The monthly snowfall total is 3.5 inches and the winter season total is 176.0 inches.
Mayor Randolph F. Bateman today (March 10), announced the suspension of the winter parking restrictions, effective Friday, March 11, at 12:01 a.m.
I ask, that as we go through the year, we all keep in mind that our residents cannot survive a property tax increase and we must continue the course we have been following to stabilize and lower Oswego County property taxes. With the help of our department heads and employees we will survive the flood of increased costs passed down to us from the state.
At Thursday’s meeting, the Oswego County Legislature will ask the state to reconsider instituting a program that would be detrimental to upstate youth. “Youth Bureau funding would be eliminated in many counties, which would promote inequities in prevention and positive youth development services across the state. It is economically not prudent to only support youth when they are at the doorstep of the child welfare and/or the juvenile justice system,” the director of the local Youth Bureau said.
Patricia Egan, Director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office, has issued an advisory for fishermen on the Salmon River due to high water conditions.
