Oswego School Board Continues Budget Debate
Rising costs for health insurance and pensions are described as ‘a runaway train.’ The district is not sure currently how much state aid it will receive and the amount Nine Mile I and II nuclear plants will pay in taxes for the coming school year. The tentative budget plan will be on the agenda for discussion at next month’s finance committee meeting.

It was a normal day that was about to come to an end as seventh grader Dillon “D.J.” Gibson and Oswego City School District bus aide Lori Lawton boarded the bus at Oswego Middle School for the lengthy trip home. According to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service, the Port City officially got down to 11 degrees below zero. Even though it was bitterly cold – it has been worse, he noted. The record low for Jan. 24 is minus 13 degrees set way back in 1882.

Prosecution Rests In Malone Murder Case
Assistant District Attorney Gregory Oakes wrapped up his case against Joyce Malone on Wednesday. The defense will continue calling witnesses on Thursday. Malone is accused of killing her husband last March in their Oswego Town home. The trial is likely to last through early next week.
