Heidi Allen’s Family Encouraged By Community

Lisa Buske, Heidi Allen's sister, and Jim Searles, Heidi Allen's,  uncle, visit the community garden.

A year ago, the Community Garden in memory of Heidi Allen at the intersection of State Route 104 and State Route 104B was both an eye sore and discouragement both to the community and family of Heidi Allen. The management of Sun Up #7 and Barrett Paving have blessed the community and family to restore the yard and Community Garden.

Fort Ontario Attendance Jumps in Wake of Threat of Closing

Sparks fly as a trio from the Continental Arm and Collector’s  Association, representing the 1st New York Regiment of 1781, fire their  rifles during a demonstration at Fort Ontario.Maybe the old song is right — you don’t know what you’ve got ’till it’s gone.  The threat of being closed for a year seems to have driven people to Fort Ontario after its delayed opening.

Numbers from the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation show that the historic fort’s attendance is up 21% through the third week of June, as compared to the same period last year.

The Oswego County Fair Opens Today

Photo courtesy of the Oswego County Fair153 years ago, the first Oswego County Fair was held.  Today, the tradition of an agriculturally-based festival continues as the fair opens for another year at the fairgrounds in Sandy Creek.

Admission and parking are free, though the cost of events in the Grandstand can vary.
