Summer begins at 7:28 a.m. today, taking over from a spring that was the warmest on record. The average temperature for spring 2010 was 50.8 degrees. That is 5.9 degrees warmer than usual, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the National Weather Service.
The keynote speaker was Gary Center, new facility manager for the Sunoco ethanol manufacturing plant in Volney. They will produce 100 million gallons per year, he said That is about 25 percent of the ethanol Sunoco uses. The plant should be in operation by July 1, he added.
Beginning Monday, the Oswego City Police Department will be instituting a “Crosswalk Safety Initiative†targeting vehicles that fail to yield the right of way to pedestrians in a crosswalk.

However, by not joining the one-year deal, reps from the county and town say the school district runs the risk of receiving even less.

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council approved slight increases in some of the fees for the city swimming pool. The increase will help offset the cost of operating the city pool that was almost closed during last year’s budget discussions.
