The grays and browns of winter and early spring are finally gone. Flowers have poked up from the ground, flowering bushes such as rhododendrons are full of their softball-sized blooms, and trees, like this one in front of Oswego City Hall, remind us that nature comes in all colors.
BREAKING NEWS: The Oswego City School District voted against accepting a one-year PILOT agreement with the owners of Nine Mile Unit I. Wednesday night’s vote, 5-1-1, followed a nearly 45-minute executive session. Board Vice President Jim Tschudy voted against the move to reject the deal and member Sean Madden was absent.
As the temperature hovered around 80 degrees and the humidity continued to rise on Tuesday, this trio found the ideal spot to relax and cool off – floating in the middle of Lake Ontario. Many more will likely head to the lake today as several areas of Central New York are forecasting possible record warmth.
“Significant action†was seen in the Assembly and Senate regarding the possibility of reopening Fort Ontario as well as several other state parks and historic sites that have fallen victim this spring to the state’s budget morass. It’s possible Oswego’s historic site could be open for Memorial Day Weekend.
AmeriCorps’ motto is “Getting Things Done in Oswego County.†Just recently, one of those things was refurbishing and painting the porch and deck at the Oswego Human Concerns Center on East Fourth Street.
Local officials are not willing to let Fort Ontario sit idle for the entire summer.
At a meeting of the county’s Tourism Advisory Council this week, county officials and local tourism business owners decided to ask the state if there’s a way to get the fort open. Fort Ontario is one of 55 state parks, historic sites and golf courses that either closed or were not allowed to open for the summer because state lawmakers have not approved a state budget yet.
