Thursday’s Weather: Cold, Not Much Snow

The storm that stalled over Oswego County brought five inches of new snow to the Oswego area, according to one National Weather Service spotter.

The storm produced more than a foot of snow farther inland, in Oneida County’s communities of Camden and Florence.

The good news is that we get today to shovel out.  Only scattered flurries are in the forecast.

Oswego School District Copes With State Aid Reduction

The governor announced Sunday that, because the state has run out of money, he is withholding $750 million in payments to school districts and others. Due to good planning, the Oswego district isn’t faced with any dire consequences at this time, the superintendent said. There is a great concern over the uncertainty of whether the withholding of the aid is permanent, he added.

Port City Hands Over Armory’s Deed To YMCA

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council approved deeding the Armory to the YMCA. The YMCA is proposing some major alteration to the Armory, for which it must obtain funding. It is necessary for the YMCA to have ownership of the Armory in order to obtain the needed funding for the proposed project.

County Deeds Land To Oswego City

The 60′ X 1,028′ property, adjacent to Wal-Mart, runs northwesterly from 104 to the city so that a new city street can be dedicated, which will foster economic development and improve traffic patterns and safety in the area, according to the resolution. The legislature will reconvene at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 and hold a public hearing on the budget as well.
