Jury Seated For Alan Jones’ Murder Trial
UPDATED: Jury selection was completed Tuesday in the trial of the Palermo man charged with killing his stepsister last August. Alan Jones is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Erin Maxwell. Opening statements are set for Wednesday.

Brianna Cole, an OHS graduate, spent three months in Japan through a program associated with her college. Her ultimate goal is to live in Japan and become an interpreter, she said.

OHS Frosh Kick Off School Year
More than 300 incoming Oswego High School freshmen will breathe a little easier on Wednesday 9 when they arrive for the first day of classes. On Sept. 3, the majority of the new first-year students visited, toured and ate at Oswego High School during the annual freshman orientation.

Child Struck By Vehicle Has Died
The Oswego City Police Department learned Friday morning that two-year-old Armondo Sciacca has died as a result of injuries he suffered in Wednesday’s incident in which he was struck by a motor vehicle on West Cayuga Street in the city of Oswego.

Barboni Sentenced To 25-Life
Jay John Barboni was sentenced this morning (Sept. 4) to 25 years to life for murdering a child. Barboni, 31, formerly of Falcon Drive, Liverpool, was convicted early last month of second-degree murder, a class A felony, and first-degree manslaughter, a class B felony.

Another Lake Ontario Shipwreck Found
Rochester area explorer Jim Kennard and Texas engineer Dan Scoville found the wreck of the steamer Samuel F. Hodge off Oak Orchard, a community between Rochester and Buffalo.

Farmers’ Market Welcomes SUNY Oswego Students
More than 100 SUNY Oswego flooded the farmers’ market Thursday night. The students were able to find out about their new community as well as pick up some fresh produce, homemade goodies and other treats.

Police ID Driver Of Vehicle That Struck Child
The 21-year-old Utica resident wasn’t aware he hit the child and couldn’t see the two-year-old due to the child’s positioning. The toddler is in critical condition. No tickets have been issued.

Restore NY Grant Funding Aids Oswego Stevedore Site Project
Empire State Development on Wednesday announced close to $9.5 million in grants for projects in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties as part of the third round of Restore NY grant program. The city of Oswego will receive $1.6 million to develop the Stevedore Building, a vacant warehouse located on the Erie Canal Heritage Corridor and in the Oswego Empire Zone.
