Fulton Graduation Rates Show Areas of Celebration and Concern

Executive Director of Instruction and Assessment for Fulton City School District, Elizabeth Conners recently broke down the graduation rates for students in the district noting both areas of excellence as well as areas of concern. At the most recent regular board of education meeting held Jan. 26, Conners presented an overview of the graduation rates for the most three most recent graduation cohorts including students who entered high school as freshmen in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and subsequently graduated in four years in 2013, 2014 and 2015. During these years, the graduation rates have differed widely with the most recent graduating class of 2015 reaching a 69-70% graduation rate.

Electrical Wiring Sparked West Fifth Street Fire

The origin and cause of the fire that occurred at 194 W. Fifth St. on January 28 has been determined to be electrical. After conducting several interviews, taking photographs, and gathering physical findings from the structure, the city of Oswego Fire Investigation Unit has concluded that electrical wiring supplying power to a second story ceiling light failed and started the fire.

Port City Eyes Website Upgrade

Mayor William Barlow Jr. took the first steps Monday night to rejuvenate the Port City’s presence on the web. The mayor said he has worked collaboratively and extensively with the Community Development Director and City Attorney in developing the first phase in this comprehensive marketing approach. The city can do a more effective job promoting itself to attract individuals and families to live here as well as businesses and investors to invest here as well, the mayor said. “Phase one of this process is to revamp the city’s website,” Barlow said.

Fugitive From Ohio Arrested By Fulton Police

During the early morning hours of Sunday (Jan. 31), Fulton Police were dispatched to a westside neighborhood in regard to an intoxicated male causing a disturbance. Upon arrival Fulton Officers located a male matching the description who was identified as Newlin Negron. It was discovered that Negron was wanted by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio.

Fulton Native Schremp Returns to Cuse for AHL All-Stars Weekend

Current AHL hockey player for the Portland Pirates and Fulton native, Rob Schremp returned to his roots for the 2016 AHL All-Star Weekend (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) at the Syracuse War Memorial. Starting with the AHL All-Stars Skills Competition yesterday (Jan. 31) Schremp performed for the All-Stars East division in the rapid fire event, the pass and score event and the breakaway relay.
