Located at the Mexico campus, CiTi (formerly known as Oswego BOCES) serves over 1,000 students every day from nine school districts in the county.

Meth Lab Bust Results In Three Arrests

On Friday, September 25, at approximately 5:30 a.m., investigators with the Oswego County Drug Task Force, with the assistance of the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team and Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team, executed a methamphetamine related search warrant at 521 S. Volney Sixth Graders Launch into Learning

Bill Cahill and the entire sixth grade of Volney Elementary took to the field at their school to launch the rockets the students had so excitedly engineered over the past two weeks. The sixth grade class along with their family stood outside as two students at a time approached the table to prepare their rockets for launch. Then, they all joined together in a countdown from five to launch their rockets into the sky and try to catch them on the way back down.

Mosquito-Borne Disease Continues to be a Threat

The Oswego County Health Department advises that, although the days are becoming shorter and the temperatures are beginning to dip, it is important to remember that mosquito-borne illnesses such as Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile Virus will continue to be a threat until the first hard frost of the season.

The 444th carries on a 260-year-old tradition of military occupation of the Fort Ontario Military Reservation National Register District. Military ceremonies are still held on the old parade ground inside the fort and candlelight vigils for soldiers lost in action in Afghanistan as well.

History Dictates Use Of Public Space Near Fort Ontario

At its meeting this week, the Physical Services Committee approved use of public space at Fort Ontario. The sites, however, had to make room for history. There is currently a community effort to elevate the Fort Ontario area to a National Historic Landmark. The NYS Historic Preservation Office strongly recommended that any use of public space be located off of the parade ground. “The new district encompasses nearly all of the old 75 acre Fort Ontario Military Reservation dating back to 1755,” Fort Supervisor Paul Lear told Oswego County Today.

Blessings in a Backpack Program Feeds 250 Local Children Every Weekend

Recently, the local Fulton/Oswego BIB chapter recognized the National Blessings in a Backpack Day by filling enough bags of food to feed the amount of selected children at one elementary school. Blessings in a Backpack, or BIB, is a national program that feeds 76,000 children in more than 800 schools including elementary schools in both Fulton and Oswego.
