Tourism Ambassador Program Generates Enthusiasm and Positive Feedback

Nearly 90 Oswego County business owners, elected officials and community leaders left a recent tourism ambassador program at the Tailwater Lodge with increased awareness, enthusiasm and excitement about Oswego County and its tourism industry. “This was by far the best conference/workshop I have attended in decades. Middle Schoolers Get Firsthand Glimpse of Government In Action

Nearly three dozen students from around the county took control the of the May meeting of the Oswego County Legislature. The students sat with their legislator counterparts and cast their votes during the meeting. The students said they appreciated the chance to sit in on an actual county meeting and vote for their legislators.

Midtown Plaza Parking Garage Demolition To Start

“After consulting with our engineers we have determined the upper deck is beyond repair and must be demolished,” said Louis Fournier III, president of The Sutton Companies. “The work will be completed in two phases. The first phase includes installing temporary fencing, steel bracing and other temporary protection measures to keep the site safe and prepare for the removal of the upper deck. This phase will begin on Monday, May 18.”

Warm weather brings increased risk of rabies

Now that the warmer weather has arrived in Oswego County, animals are more active in the wild and reports of rabies will start to increase in rural areas, villages and city neighborhoods. The rabies virus can infect any mammal, including dogs, cats, livestock, wildlife, and humans. The vast majority of rabies cases occur with wild animals such as bats, raccoons, skunks and foxes.

Deputy In Auringer Road Shooting Identified

The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Oswego County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate a fatal officer-involved-shooting that occurred on May 8 at 168 Auringer Road in the town of Constantia. The deputy involved in the shooting is identified as Mark Walton, 30. District Attorney Greg Oakes added, “While I understand the public’s interest in further details, the matter is being investigated by the New York State Police. Until the State Police complete their investigation, it would be premature and prejudicial to comment on the facts of the case. “

Oswego Hospital Holds Yearly Decontamination Drill

This time, it was only a drill. The exercise focused primarily on the hospital’s ability to effectively respond to incidents that would involve mass numbers of chemically contaminated patients self-reporting to the hospital. The the drill was being observed and evaluated by members of the Oswego City Fire Department and the Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s office.
