Husband-Wife Accused of Stealing From 84-Year-Old Woman

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today (Oct. 28) announced felony charges against an Oswego County husband and wife accused of abusing power of attorney to steal from an 84-year-old woman in their care. David Tetro Jr. and Morgan Tetro, both of Minetto, allegedly stole more than $200,000 of the victim’s money for their personal use, including more than $100,000 in gambling debts, purchases at Victoria’s Secret and assorted transactions on iTunes, Ebay and Facebook.

Quarterly Siren Tests Scheduled for Nov. 3 to 7 in Oswego County

The Oswego County Emergency Management Office announces that the system of emergency notification sirens surrounding the three nuclear power plants at Nine Mile Point will be tested during the week of Nov. 3 through 7. Each of the 37 individual sirens will be tested between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. between Nov. 3 and 6. The testing on Nov. 7 will include a full-scale simultaneous activation of all 37 sirens for three to five minutes.

US Senator Gillibrand Pushes New Legislation To Ban Plastic Microbeads In Personal Care Products

Standing at the Port of Oswego Marina today (Oct. 27), U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand urged Congress to pass new legislation to ban plastic microbeads in personal care products. There are many other safer options that can be used instead of microbeads, she said. These products are designed to be rinsed down the drain. However, the microbeads are too small to be captured by wastewater treatment plants, she added.

They are subsequently found in large bodies of water, such as the Great Lakes, where they concentrate toxins and can be ingested by birds and fish, posing serious environmental and health risks.

Dozens Of Volunteers Resurrect East Park Playground

Several Oswego DPW workers and dozens of Novelis employees gave up their Saturday to help rebuild the playground in Washington Square (East Park). Not only have they added new and safer equipment but three new flower beds were also added to the park. “It’s going to look really nice when it’s done,” Councilor Eric VanBuren said. “It’s a big change; a big change from what it was.”
