By a vote of 16-8-1, the Oswego County Legislature approved a resolution opposing a certain portion of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed state budget. The county administrator has said the governor’s plan would result in a $16.07 rebate check for two years for county taxpayers. An alternative being suggested by NYSAC would result in a permanent $514.08 tax cut for taxpayers.

As the region digs out of the relentless winter snow, federal, state and local jobs and unemployment data for January show a bright spot as the economy – even in Oswego County – continues its assiduous dig out of the 2008 recession.
According to New York State Department of Labor statistics released Tuesday, while Oswego County’s January numbers of 9.7 percent trailed the local region, the rate was 2.4 points lower than the county posted in January 2013.
At 10 a.m. today (March 13), Mayor Thomas W. Gillen lifted the Travel Advisory in the city of Oswego, which was imposed on Wednesday afternoon, due to the heavy snow and white-out conditions in our immediate area.

SUNY Oswego has signed on with the newly launched Generation Study Abroad program, agreeing to increase the college’s participation in study-abroad opportunities to 20 percent of undergraduates — 1 in 5 — by 2019.

The “Travel Advisory” phrase means NO unnecessary travel on city streets, and NO parking on city streets between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
BREAKING NEWS: The City of Fulton has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY effective at 3 p.m. (March 12, 2014). Snow and gusting winds along with a forecast of significant snowfall this evening have created very hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are advised against any unnecessary travel. Vehicles will be towed if they become stuck or if they present a hazard.
