The Small Business Gratitude Gala on November 30 was a big day for local businesses in Upstate New York, especially Oswego County. The gratitude gala was developed in order to encourage local business and quality of life in Fulton.
Everyone is probably familiar with the term senioritus. But, it’s not until your senior year of college that one can truly know the symptoms that accompany the transition from college to the workforce. All you can hope is that college prepared you well. The realization, at least for me, happened about four weeks into my last semester at Oswego State, which is the current semester I am enrolled in.
Students belonging to the SUNY Oswego chapter of the anti-poverty group ONE recently won a national challenge for awareness-raising and lobbying efforts. Members have now written more than 570 letters to congressional representatives on issues related to poverty in sub-Saharan Africa, such as the need for electricity, said Sara Cooper, president of the Oswego chapter she helped found starting this summer.
A new, long-in-the-works agreement between SUNY Oswego and highly regarded St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata, India, will open paths for student, faculty and staff exchanges for semester-abroad and visiting-scholar programs, collaborative research, cross-cultural art opportunities and professional development.
This weekend, local author and speaker, and Heidi’s older sister, Lisa Buske, will travel to San Antonio to speak at their annual banquet to share HOPE with the staff, volunteers, and families of the missing.

Spencer Saraf, a SUNY Oswego senior majoring in chemistry who graduates this month, has received a travel award from the National Science Foundation to present the surprising results of her summer research on eyesight to an international audience of scientists. She will make her presentation at the annual meeting of the Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology in January in Austin, Texas.
Santa Claus made an appearance with his wife in Fulton around 7 p.m. on Thursday. Even in the light rain, the city of Fulton lit up its Christmas Tree Jubilee and began holiday festivities.
