Oswego County Plans Aerial Spraying Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Evenings

Aerial spraying is being conducted as a preventative measure to reduce the chances of a person contracting the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus, which is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Due to the size of the area, spraying cannot be completed in one evening. Aerial spraying will start after 6 p.m.

Fundraiser Set Oct. 13 For Retired Fulton Police Officer

Ed Hoffman, a retired Fulton police officer, was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer. The aggressive cancer has quickly spread into his liver and lymph nodes. This fundraiser is being held in order to help Ed pay for the expensive chemotherapy treatments and day-to-day expenses while he is out of work.

Walking Tour of the 1814 Battle of Oswego

On September 21, at 2 p.m., Fort Ontario Superintendent Paul Lear will lead a battlefield walking tour of the War of 1812 Battle of Oswego. The tour will begin at the entrance of the old stone fort and is free and open to the public. Lake Ontario was the main theatre of action during the war and Oswego was a major forwarding point for supplies.

Marching Bucs Enter the Field for Competition at ESM

This year’s edition of the Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers is prepared to take the field for competition. The Bucs will be performing at ESM High School this Saturday night.This Saturday night the 110-member Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers will debut the “Amelia Earhart: The Legacy of Courage” as the New York State Field Band Conference Association season commences. The Marching Bucs performed their new show this past Wednesday evening before family, friends and fellow students. Band Director Scott Ciesla is ready to take his band to East Syracuse-Minoa this Saturday for a show that begins at 6 p.m.

Boil Water Advisory Announced For Parts Of Oswego

The city of Oswego has been required to separate the “Combined Sewer System” in certain portions of the west side of the city, as mandated in a Consent Decree with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency and New York Department of Environmental Conservation. Today (Sept. 5), between the hours of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., while this work was ongoing, the city’s water system lost pressure due to the construction work associated with the Consent Decree. The city of Oswego is, therefore, issuing a BOIL WATER ADVISORY

Eight years ago one misstep resulted in a life-changing event, a fall from a 13-foot balcony left Greg Callen with paralysis of the lower half of his body. While the next a couple years brought periods of depression and soul searching Greg eventually began working on living independently. He moved to Syracuse. He accepted a friend’s suggestion to checkout Syracuse Fliers Wheelchair Sports.
