“We received test results this afternoon from water samples that were taken on August 6,” said Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang. “These results, combined with the visual inspection done that same day, show that the water is now safe for swimmers.”
Requests for some A-frame signs to be placed in public space touched off a debate regarding the way signs are placed around the city. City officials say they’d like to meet with area business owners in the near future to discuss how things can be improved.
Investigation revealed that 19-year-old Michael Peters of Parish had climbed over the railing at the observation deck to get a better view of the falls when he slipped and fell. Kelton Lewis, 17, of Pulaski, reportedly attempted to assist Peters. However, he also slipped and fell over the falls. He survived; Peters reportedly died from his injuries.
Before the American Civil War (1861-1865) Oswego County, NY, played an active role in the Underground Railroad, a movement which concealed and forwarded escaped slaves to freedom in Canada. Oswego County provided more men to Union Army regiments, on a percentage basis, than any other county in New York State.

For newly hired sports information director at SUNY Oswego Michael Bielak, a part-time job during college led him into a career in the Oswego area which may turn into a perfect match; both have a strong drive for athletics and even winter weather. Having attended Bishop Grimes prep school in Syracuse, Bielak headed to St. John Fisher for his undergraduate studies. As a student there, a part-time job offer from his advisor eventually led him to SUNY Oswego.
With the 57th running of the Budweiser International Classic 200 on the horizon, Oswego Speedway released its 2013 camping guidelines and regulations for the week long festivities. The majority of past camping policies and regulations have stayed the same for 2013; however a few policies have been put in place for the overall safety of Speedway race fans.
