“Music in Our Schools Month” puts the spotlight on hundreds of Oswego City School District students. Beginning on Wednesday, the Riley Elementary chorus will take to the stage at Oswego High School and will be joined by the OHS choirs and the Oswego Middle School choruses.
It will be an opportunity for residents to bring up issues and ask questions of councilors and other city officials. It is tentatively scheduled for some time in April. Also, some funding for the Lighthouse Project is approved.
The project, started by Emily Bradshaw, recently distributed its 1,000th personal care bag. Since last fall, she’s been collecting shampoo, bar soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant and other items to aid area homeless or nearly homeless individuals or families in need. She is also helping with OCO’s Lucky 13’ Bowl-A-Fun.

An ivory grand piano, on which hundreds of local students learned to play, is now being enjoyed by the residents of Springside at Seneca Hill. Donna and Dante Ascenzi recently donated the G175 Young Chang piano to the retirement community, where her parents, Jack and Joan Taber reside.
Not all organized sports are tolerate of special needs individuals playing on their teams, program organizers said. “Doing it Our Way” will be just that – we will play the same sports, dance the same dance, cheer the same cheers but we will do it our way, they added.
The Section III Division II ice hockey title will be on the line on Saturday when the Oswego High School Bucs face off against the Brothers of CBA on the Utica Aud ice at 3:15 p.m. On Thursday night the Bucs gave up a late goal with time winding down and were forced to skate not one, but two, overtime sessions before skating away with a 5-4 win over second seeded New Hartford.

The plan can help lessen the impact of disasters like the snowstorm in 2007 and the ice storm a few years before that. And, it can help the city save money in dealing with such calamities, the county’s Emergency Services Program coordinator said.
