Each year more people in the United States die from extreme heat exposure than from hurricanes, lightening, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined. On average, about 300 people die each year from exposure to heat. Temperatures will linger around 90 degrees the next few days – with high humidity.

At 2 p.m. on Monday, Matthew D. Roof, 34, of 26279 Middle Road, Watertown, was arrested for first-degree criminal contempt, a class E felony and bribing a witness, a class D felony.

Man Drowns at Fair Haven Beach State Park
Members of a family and some friends jumped off the east pier at Fair Haven State Park Sunday. One member of the group struggled in the water. Friends could not help him and efforts to revive him failed. Marcos Peralta of Oswego died.
