The recent river rescue attempt and fires as well as other incidents have caused the department to use more of its OT funds than expected. To ensure a safe number of firefighters are on shift for the remainder of the year, it will cost $50,000, according to the chief.

A group of Kenney Middle School students in Hannibal recently provided the school with signs naming the many hallways of the building.
The project started as a tribute to a special 6th grade teacher, Mr. Jeff LaMont, who passed away unexpectantly over the summer.
The contract purchaser of 134 and 140 E. Thirteenth St. wants it changed from an R-3 Residential District to a B-1 Neighborhood Business District. The purpose is to allow him to erect a new hotel. Neighbors and local businesses are against the plan.
The John Street home was fully-engulfed in flames shortly before 12:30 p.m. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to knock down the fire, although some flames could
still be seen for a time after that.
Emergency services personnel have been unsuccessful in locating the victim. They plan to continue surface and shoreline searches periodically, as weather permits. The victim has not yet been positively identified.
